Maersk Launches New Air Cargo Gateway in Chicago to Provide More Supply Chain Integration Opportunities for Customers
Maersk has opened a new air cargo gateway in Chicago near O’Hare Airport, designed to offer direct in-flight pickup with immediate transfers to the new facility. 70% of the United States is within an overnight truck ride, allowing large shipments from Asia and Europe to reach their destination quickly when the timing is critical. The new facility also serves Maersk’s air cargo hub at Rockford Intl. Airport – a fast growing air cargo hub, open 24/7.
“We want to expand our air cargo presence and logistics services in key locations, and today’s grand opening in Chicago is an important step in our integrated offering to customers. We want to create more routing options and flexibility for customers looking to improve their air cargo supply chains.. Our new Chicago Air Cargo Gateway offers an integrated supply chain solution for urgent shipments and order fulfillment times. »
Mike Meierkort, regional logistics and services manager for Maersk North America
The new facility is a bonded container (CFS) freight station with US Customs and operates as a US TSA (Transportation Security Administration) certified cargo screening facility to ensure the timely processing and secure air cargo. This allows priority management and sorting of imported and exported goods.
For imported goods, the time from arrival at ORD gateway to preparation for delivery is 24 hours, pending customs clearance.
For export cargo, the time from arrival at ORD Gateway to tender and carrier is no more than 24 hours, pending carrier booking. The Chicago Air Freight Gateway news follows Maersk’s recent acquisition of Senator International, which added transatlantic experience and assets to integrate into Maersk’s North American air freight service to customers.
