Faulty landing gear forces Ibom Air Aircraft to land 128 passengers at the loading area
Aug. 6 (THEWILL) – There was panic among the 128 air passengers who boarded Ibom Air Aircraft from Abuja to Lagos on Saturday as the plane was forced to disembark all passengers on the loading area at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), due to faulty landing gear.
Ibom Air flight IAN 4157, took off from Abuja airport bound for Lagos on Saturday morning, but developed a rolling fault to disembark its passengers.
A passenger, who spoke to THEWILL, said she was scared when the plane taxied to the cargo area instead of the usual domestic terminal, where they were supposed to have been disembarked.
The passenger, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that the plane may have suffered a hydraulic failure of its landing gear.
According to the source, the plane left Abuja for Lagos at 10:30 a.m. but malfunctioned before the flight was completed.
The passenger further implied that the aircraft landed in Lagos, but the occupants were evacuated from the runway by airside buses.
Confirming the incident, Aniekan Essienette, Managing Director, Marketing and Communications, Ibom Air, said the incident happened on his Airbus A220.
He also said that all affected passengers were disembarked at the loading area of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
Essienette said the flight departed on time and landed normally at the international runway in Lagos, on schedule at 11:41 a.m.
According to her, while exiting the track, the pilots noticed an indication of the main wheels, which suggested a malfunction.
She added: “As per company procedure, rather than taxiing the full distance to the domestic terminal, the crew elected to proceed to the international cargo area from where stairs and buses were positioned to disembark passengers and take them to the domestic arrivals. Hall.
“All 128 passengers on board were safely disembarked and transported to the MMA2 arrival hall, while our engineers worked on the failure.
“This statement is given to remove any ambiguity, while expressing our regrets to our passengers for the inconvenience caused,” the airline said.
