Indore: Airport to get new Rs 15 crore cargo complex | Indore News

INDORE: Cargo handling capacity at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore is expected to increase with the Airport Authority from India Freight logistics and Allied Services Company Limited (AAICLAS) finalizing plans to create a larger domestic air cargo complex at the airport.
Construction work has also started and the building should be ready before the end of this year, airport officials said.
They said that this new cargo terminal will be set up at an estimated cost of Rs15 crore. A 2000 square meter plot of land in the old airport terminal has been identified for this new domestic air cargo terminal.
This new domestic cargo complex will also house a dedicated complex to be set up on an area of 300 square meters for perishable goods to enable the handling of perishable items like fruits, vegetables, medicines, etc. While the rest of the space will be used for handling domestic goods, officials said.
“The new inland cargo complex will have a handling capacity at least five times greater than the amount of cargo handled at the airport daily,” he added. Prabodh Sharmasaid an airport official.
According to AAICLAS officials, the new cargo terminal has been planned to handle a minimum of 73,000 metric tons of cargo per year compared to the old domestic air cargo terminal’s existing capacity of approximately 12,000 to 15,000 metric tons per year.
The bidding process has been completed and an agency has also been finalized. “This new domestic air cargo complex should be ready by the end of this year,” they said. Indore Airport also has an international cargo complex which was launched last year.
And this new inland freight complex has been planned for the expansion of inland freight services to and from Indore and to meet the demands of industries and trade associations, officials have pointed out. TNN
