The State Transportation Commission wants your input on toll rate reduction options for the Tacoma Narrows Bridge

Tacoma Narrows Bridge, SR 99 Tunnel Toll Rate Increase

You will pay 25 cents more to cross the Narrows Bridge and it will be a 15% increase for the SR 99 tunnel.

TACOMA, Wash. – By October 1, the Washington State Transportation Commission (WSTC) plans to reduce toll rates on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Earlier this year, the state legislature passed legislation providing $130 million in funding for the WSTC to adjust toll rates on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. In September 2021, tolls for the bridge increased by 25 cents.

This rate increase was part of a plan to help pay off construction debt and reduce pandemic-related revenue impacts.

Now the Commission is looking to have a flat toll of 75 cents for the bridge. They ask Tacoma drivers to think about how they want this flat rate to be implemented:

  • Option 1: flat rate reduction of 75 cents on the toll for 2-axle vehicles only
  • Option 2: Flat rate reduction of 75 cents on the toll rate for all vehicles
  • Option 3: Flat-rate toll rate reduction of 75 cents for 2-axle vehicles, with a per-axle multiplier applied for vehicles with 3 or more axles (based on current practice)

Comments will be accepted between June 13 and June 30.

The Commission will meet at the end of July to review public comments and select a toll rate reduction proposal for public review and comment.

You can take a toll poll and survey here. You can also email the Commission at [email protected] or call them at 360-705-7070.
