Here’s what we love about the SUV (and 2 things we hate)

Boasting an exceptional lineup of cars and SUVs designed to deliver ultimate comfort and impressive performance, Acura is a division of the Honda Motor Company, Ltd. Acura is Japan’s premier luxury car brand and has launched some great cars since its inception. The Acura MDX was the first fully original SUV produced and immediately became a hit with its rugged engine and top-notch features.
Focusing on the RDX, the company’s first luxury crossover SUV, the vehicle has been around from 2006 to date and has undergone numerous improvements and designs. While there is so much to like about the RDX, there are a few gray areas as well. Here we take a look at some features we love about the Acura RDX 2022 and some things that aren’t that cool.
ten We love: awesome all-wheel drive handling
Designed to give the driver the smoothest ride, the SUV is equipped with systems that improve their response. The all-wheel drive system available on the vehicle is not like the regular all-wheel drive that you will find, as it is designed to provide solid grip on rough road conditions.
The amount of torque received by the front and rear wheels of the vehicle is also regulated by the Super-Handling all-wheel drive system, improving handling in difficult situations.
9 We like: the high-end interior
The SUV is installed with Ultrasuede trimmed seats with an orchid leather frame, giving you the ultimate feeling of comfort. With a perfectly placed True Touch interface that showcases the beauty of the interior.
Equipped with 16 speakers courtesy of Acura / ELS Studio 3D systems and designed by Grammy Award winning Elliot Scheiner, you are sure to have a thrilling feeling in the vehicle. It should also be noted that the leather seats offer absolute comfort to the driver, giving him a pleasant feeling.
8 We like: enough space for passengers and luggage
Do you want to fill the cabin of your vehicle with passengers and still have enough space for luggage? You can count on the 2021 Acura RDX to make that dream come true, as it is designed to provide maximum seating comfort and luggage space. The SUV is built with two spacious rows and can comfortably accommodate five passengers.
Don’t worry about cargo space, as the vehicle has a maximum cargo volume of 79.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. The Acura RDX stands out in the area of ââspace compared to its competitors.
seven We like: fuel economy
Another great thing about the RDX is that it is not a heavy hitter of gasoline. The crossover has competitive fuel ratings that are in the mid-20s. Acura’s all-wheel drive RDX achieves an impressive 21 mpg for city roads and 27 mpg on the highway.
On the flip side, both figures are up an extra mpg over the front driver. The A-Spec package further reduces both estimates by 1 mpg. These estimates are better than the fuel rating of the Porsche Macan.
6 We like: Optional Tech Pack
Compared to the base model, the Acura RDX 2021 offers a more high-tech technological package. The impressive and highly desirable updates to this model include a highly efficient audio system with 12 powerful speakers. Driving aids such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors are some of the packages available on the RDX.
Passengers in the back can take advantage of the two additional USB charging ports available in addition to the standard ones up front. In addition, it places the SUV in an advantageous position over its competition.
5 We love: infotainment and connectivity
For infotainment, the manufacturer has provided a 10.2-inch high-definition screen positioned in the center for easy visibility. Of course, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all RDX trim levels. Drivers can integrate their smartphones into the multimedia display and display their apps, music and emails on the display.
Acura’s True Touchpad interface can control the multimedia screen located on the center console. Wi-Fi availability and data plans are standard. There is also AcuraLink, a mobile application where drivers can get information about their car.
4 We like: a good crash test score
When choosing a car, safety is an important factor that must be taken into account. Well, the 2021 Acura RDX scored well in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, so it’s a safe car. The RDX was “good” for most points of impact resistance during the test. They also received a “superior” rating for their headlights in the Collision Avoidance and Mitigation category. The SUV performed very well and received the Best Safety Pick of 2021.
It is equipped with features such as the Blind Spot Information and Collision Braking System (CMBS), which applies the brakes autonomously if it detects a pedestrian or oncoming vehicle. In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test results also rate the RDX favorably.
3 We love: Sleek exterior styling options
There are many color options for your RDX that will complement the uniqueness of its interior. Colors available include Lunar Silver Metallic, Modern Steel Metallic, Fathom Blue Pearl, and Platinum White Pearl.
Also fitted with unique wheels that showcase the magnificent craftsmanship of the design, the SUV sports 19-inch glitter silver wheels on the standard package, 19-inch Tin Gray Metallic wheels on the tech package, and more again. By opting for the A-spec package, customers can take advantage of additional exterior features such as; black window trim, dark chrome, lighting details etc.
2 We hate: low towing capacity and lack of engine options
Among the enticing specs of the 2021 Acura RDX, the SUV has a few drawbacks, one being the lack of engine options. The standard engine fitted to the vehicle will still deliver amazing performance, but with the single engine option, drivers who like to explore the expanse of one vehicle on another engine would not be impressed.
Additionally, the single-engine option affects the SUV’s towing capacity, which is limited to 1,500 pounds compared to the 5,000 pounds that can be towed by the Acura MDX and some of its competitors.
1 We hate: transmission problems
Acura’s RDX 2021 model is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with sequential SportShift paddle shifters. The gear selector and transmission are electronically controlled, and everything sounds good, but then there are problems.
Drivers are already complaining about shifting delays, jerky movements when accelerating, hissing and even a burning smell under the hood. Although these are not everyday problems, they are still important. These transmission problems can affect the quality of the car’s ride and reduce fuel economy.
