Amazon Air speeds up flights for cyber Monday

Amazon Air stepped up its daily flights in late November to meet growing demand for Cyber Monday online shopping promotion.
The Cyber Monday Sale, which follows the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States, was started by retailers in the mid-2000s to help drive online sales and has grown rapidly every year.
The search for the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development shows that the airfreight arm of e-commerce giant Amazon operated 209 flights on Cyber Monday and 206 the next day, representing a 26% increase since the end of August.
The increase comes as the company has increased its fleet during the period; from 73 to 81 freighters since the end of August, an increase of 11%.
“Although the fleet still consists primarily of Boeing freighter, it now flies three ATR-72s, turboprop engines used primarily from Fort. Worth Alliance Airport,” the research indicates.
Amazon has also stepped up its intra-European flights, from eight to 18.5 daily flights with the addition of a fourth and a fifth Boeing 737 operated by ASL Airlines.
“As these results show, the end of 2021 is shaping up to be a remarkable time for Amazon and other online retailers,” the Chaddick Institute said.
