(Washington, DC) – US Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representative Chris Pappas (NH-01) received $ 2,094,444 at Manchester Regional Airport today -Boston (MHT) to support its air freight capacity. The funding will help build an apron and two taxiway connectors as part of the airport’s new air cargo facility. This facility will support the delivery of e-commerce products throughout New England, creating well-paying jobs at the airport and helping local businesses move their goods more cheaply. The award includes funding through the US bailout in support of the Fiscal Year 2021 Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants, a program that Shaheen and Hassan have long defended.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the grant as part of a $ 479.1 million program, with additional discretionary FY2021 funding and the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
“I am delighted to welcome over $ 2 million to MHT to support the airport’s role in delivering goods to New England households and businesses,” said Senator Shaheen. “The pandemic has shown how important e-commerce is in connecting families to the products they need, and this funding will help solidify MHT’s role as a leader in air freight in the region. This grant will also help create well-paying jobs and reduce transportation costs for local businesses to deliver their goods. I will continue to fight for the funding and resources necessary to support MHT’s operations and growth.
“The expansion of the air cargo facilities at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport will help boost our economy, lower costs for small businesses and create well-paying jobs for Granite Staters,” said Senator Hassan. “I am pleased to have helped secure funding for Manchester Airport through the US bailout, and will continue to work to support our growing e-commerce businesses and our regional economy.”
“I am delighted that Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is receiving this funding to increase the airport’s air cargo capacity, a necessary upgrade that will reduce delivery times and costs for Granite Staters and small businesses. . said Congressman Pappas. “As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I will continue to advocate for smart investments in New Hampshire airports and transportation infrastructure that help create well-paying jobs in our communities. “
“The funding provided under the FAA grant will help the airport build a common use apron supporting our new cargo facility.” said Ted Kitchens, AAE, Director of Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. “The new cargo facility will increase our current air cargo portfolio and provide additional warehouse and air cargo capacity, enabling the airport to increase our air cargo footprint. With this grant and our new state-of-the-art air cargo facility, we can improve regional connectivity to the vital world of e-commerce. “
