Emirates SkyCargo moves 400 million kilos of pharmaceuticals in global milestone

Emirates SkyCargo has over 20,000 square meters of GDP compliant storage and handling space at its Dubai hub, handling nearly 200,000 kilograms (200 tonnes) of pharmaceuticals every day including vaccines, biologicals, drugs for diseases such as cancer, diabetes and a range of other medical treatments.
The carrier has one of the world’s largest fleets of Cool Dollys which help keep cargo at a stable temperature between the aircraft and the terminal. Almost 50 of these Cool Dolly are dedicated to pharmaceutical freight.
Emirates SkyCargo is also working with a number of specialist container suppliers to provide customers with a better choice and tailored to their shipping needs.
The establishment of a world-class transportation hub for pharmaceuticals in Dubai by Emirates SkyCargo has facilitated the rapid and secure transportation of pharmaceuticals from manufacturing sites to final destinations.
Over the years, the carrier has been able to connect increasing volumes of pharmaceutical freight between markets across six continents, including India, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, UK, Russia, United States, Brazil, Australia, Korea, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia. Almost a third of the total pharmaceutical goods exported to Emirates SkyCargo each year originate from India. Meanwhile, Emirates has also transported more than 45 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to different countries in Africa.
Emirates SkyCargo has also worked with ground agents at more than 35 major origin and destination pharmaceutical airports to ensure high standards of origin-to-destination pharmaceutical processing.
In Chicago, one of the main pharmaceutical stations in the Emirates SkyCargo network, the carrier worked closely with local ground support to develop a GDP certified airside pharmaceutical handling facility spread over 1,000 square meters.
According to reports, between October 2020 and September 2021, Emirates SkyCargo transported more than 250 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to more than 75 destinations through its hub in Dubai.
As part of the Dubai Vaccine Logistics Alliance, Emirates SkyCargo has partnered with DP World, International Humanitarian City and Dubai Airports to combine expertise and strengths to accelerate the flow of vaccines to developing countries via Dubai.
The carrier has also entered into a memorandum of understanding with UNICEF to facilitate the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines in support of the COVAX facility for equitable vaccine distribution.
