DGAC grants aerodrome license to Sindhudurg airport

The General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) has granted an aerodrome license to Sindhudurg Airport in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, paving the way for commercial flight operations from the facility.

The first green airport at Chipi in the Sindhudurg district was built with an investment of ??800 crores. The new airport is expected to bring economic prosperity to the region with employment and self-entrepreneurship opportunities for local residents, IRB developer Sindhudurg Airport Pvt Ltd said in a statement.

IRB Sindhudurg Airport Pvt Ltd is a special purpose vehicle of IRB infrastructure developer who has been trained and commissioned for the development and operation of the project.

“IRB Sindhudurg Airport Pvt Ltd, an SPV of IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd, has received an aerodrome license from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA),” the airport operator said in the statement.

The IRB is pleased to take another step forward in the current year and to see the airport receive an operating license after its successful completion, said Virendra D Mhaiskar, President and CEO of the company.

“With a concession period of over 90 years and a compelling regional proposition, it offers significant avenues for growth. Sindhudurg Chipi Airport has a 2,500 meter long runway and can accommodate 200 departing and 200 arriving passengers during peak hours.

IRB Sindhudurg Airport with an expense of approximately ??800 crore and a concession period of over 90 years is the first such facility in the southern Konkan region, which aims to establish and improve the region’s air connectivity with western Maharashtra; Southern states; Mumbai and then to all parts of the country, the company said.

The airport will not only generate passenger traffic, but will also be a boon for the economic development of the region, as it will facilitate and stimulate freight transport, generate direct and indirect jobs and other business opportunities for the local population. , said The version.

Airport operators also said the facility has the potential to become a western region cargo hub as there is ample space for cargo handling and is expandable to accommodate future growing needs.

On September 7, Union Minister Narayan Rane said Chipi Airport in Sindhudurg District in Maharashtra would be inaugurated by Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on October 9.

Earlier, the Shiv Sena, which runs the state in alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party and Congress, announced a similar program from Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
