Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company ceases handling of coal
Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSC, a Global Ports Group company, located in the port of Vostochny) has now stopped its coal handling services. The last coal cargo shipments were loaded onto the outgoing vessel and shipped to recipients on September 2, 2021.
Dismantling of dust screens and dust collection equipment has already started at the terminal and by the end of the year capacities will be adapted for container storage. The decision to discontinue coal handling services and focus on the strategic and more environmentally friendly containerized freight customer offering, was taken in view of the significant increase in container handling volumes in the first half of the year. 2021.
Ilia Dolgiy, Managing Director of Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company, said:
“Using the converted capacity for containers will allow VSC to more effectively manage the increased import and export flows of this cargo. In addition, the corresponding decision to phase out the handling of coal will allow the terminal to reduce its environmental impact.
VSC has been processing coal since 2011 and in the first half of 2021, the terminal processed 925,000 tonnes of coal. The throughput of VSC containers increased by 20% to 303,000 TEUs in the last seven months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020.
