IATA validates the quality of groundhandling services in Sheremetyevo
MOSCOW, 25 August 2021 / PRNewswire / – Moscow Cargo LLC, the cargo operator of Sheremetyevo International Airport, has renewed its Certificate of Compliance with Global Standards and Recommended Practices of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the Safety of ground assistance. The certificate was awarded upon completion of the IATA ISAGO Audit (IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations), which takes place every two years.
The ISAGO standard establishes strict requirements for aircraft handling operations and ground handling of cargo and mail.
The audit contains requirements that are not normally found in the Russian regulatory environment, such as the risk management system, the quality program and the training of personnel for emergency situations. ISAGO certification guides the cargo handler in improving the quality of groundhandling services and helps eliminate the need for individual carriers to perform inspections, reducing operating expenses for partner airlines .
Moscow Cargo was last certified in 2019. The semi-annual recertification allows IATA to consider any changes in production processes, including those dictated by the need to respond effectively to market demands. The international auditors paid particular attention to the safety and quality of Moscow Cargo’s services for cargo flights only, which are chartered cargo flights using passenger aircraft. These flights have been critical for the industry during the pandemic, when demand for freight transport increased sharply while scheduled passenger traffic declined.
Moscow Cargo LLC is a high-tech air cargo terminal and the main cargo operator at Sheremetyevo International Airport. It is the largest of Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe and has no analogue in Russia in terms of equipment. The total area of Moscow Cargo is 42,300 square meters; it handles 380,000 tonnes of freight per year.
