Jettainer invests in digital twin technology for ULD fleet
ULD management company Jettainer is investing in digital twin technology with the creation of digital counterparts for all unit load devices (ULDs) in its fleet.
Digital twins are virtual representations of each of the company’s 100,000 ULDs. Jettainer said this gives access to all relevant information at a glance and can be used as the basis for automated decision making.
Gert Pfeifer, Supply Chain Manager for Operational Excellence at Jettainer, said: “With our digital twin setup, we can automate workflows and help our teams around the world make better decisions – faster.”
Each digital twin processes data from three main sources: JettWare – Jettainer’s monitoring and tracking system, Jettainer’s asset database and its repair workflow management.
The data stored on each ULD includes: unique identifier, exact type and specifications, manufacturer, date of manufacture and purchase.
All past pilot and repair events, repair details and real-time status, condition and location information are also stored.
Jettainer uses this information to make decisions about piloting, positioning and storing ULDs, deciding whether to extend repairs, or identify the ideal life span with a unit’s scrap.
