Kansai International Airport (KIX), the first airport in Japan with 24-hour operational capacity, opened its runway to passenger and cargo service on September 4, 1994.

KIX is built on an artificial island located 3 miles off the shore of Senshu in southeast Osaka Bay and serves as a major transportation hub for the entire Asia Pacific region.
